Jobe Bellingham appears ready to turn his back on Premier League football with Sunderland to pursue a career-defining move to the Bundesliga, following in the footsteps of his superstar brother, Jude.
Despite helping Sunderland earn promotion back to the top flight for the first time in eight years via a dramatic play-off final at Wembley, the 19-year-old forward is reportedly preparing for an exit. According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Bellingham has made a firm decision to join Borussia Dortmund, even informing rival suitor Eintracht Frankfurt that his mind is made up.
The move is now dependent on Dortmund reaching a transfer agreement with Sunderland, who are said to be holding out for a €30 million (£25m/\$34m) fee for their prized asset.
Bellingham’s potential transfer would mirror that of his older brother, Jude, who left Birmingham City as a teenager in 2020 for Dortmund—a move that proved to be the launchpad for his rise to global stardom and eventual transfer to Real Madrid. Jobe’s recent meeting with Dortmund representatives, reportedly held in Ibiza, seems to have cemented the decision.
While Jude had played just 44 senior matches in England before heading to Germany, Jobe has already amassed 116 appearances for Birmingham City and Sunderland combined, showcasing his readiness for the next big challenge. In contrast to his brother—who has yet to feature in the Premier League despite his world-class reputation—Jobe seems willing to forgo English top-flight football for the greater developmental opportunity in Germany.
Negotiations between Sunderland and Dortmund are expected to begin shortly.
