Rangers are among a massive 26 clubs vying to sign Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku, as confirmed by the club’s director of football Barry Fry, who believes the Ghanaian star is destined for the Premier League.

The 23-year-old, who bagged 12 goals and 8 assists in 27 League One appearances last season, has become one of the most sought-after talents in the summer market. His standout performances helped Peterborough clinch the EFL Trophy at Wembley and nearly secured promotion, with Fry describing him as a “fan favourite in the making.”

Speaking to *Mail Sport*, Fry revealed that Poku’s contract is expiring and his camp is currently in discussions with clubs from across Europe, including those in Portugal, Germany, Belgium, and a host of English sides.

“Kwame’s speaking to 26 clubs right now,” said Fry. “He’s such an exciting player — wherever he ends up, fans are going to love him. We took a gamble on him from Colchester, and he’s proven to be pure quality.”

Rangers are reportedly exploring Poku as a potential replacement for Vaclav Cerny, who is unlikely to return after his loan due to cost. The Ibrox side are also linked with several other names, including Connor Coady, Harry Darling, Matija Frigan, and Dor Turgeman, as manager Russell Martin looks to build a squad capable of reclaiming domestic dominance.

Fry admitted that earlier in the season, they received serious offers for Poku, quoting £5 million plus add-ons to interested clubs. But with Poku now a free agent, compensation will depend on whether he stays in England or moves abroad. English clubs would need to settle a tribunal fee due to his age, whereas an overseas switch — like Rangers — would invoke FIFA’s lower cross-border compensation rules, similar to when Joe Aribo moved from Charlton to Ibrox for just £300,000.

“Of course, we’d prefer him to stay in England because of the higher compensation,” Fry added. “But ultimately, it’s up to him. I honestly don’t know what FIFA would decide — it could be anything from a pound to a million.”

Poku’s next move could be one of the stories of the summer, with Rangers and 25 other suitors waiting anxiously for the winger’s decision.
