Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly open to permanent offers for midfielder Julio Enciso this summer, following his return from a loan spell at Championship side Ipswich Town. The Paraguayan international appears to be surplus to requirements under new head coach Fabian Hürzeler, who has excluded him from the club’s long-term vision.
This update comes from former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown, who remains well-connected within elite football circles. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Brown revealed that Brighton are actively considering cashing in on the 21-year-old, especially with just one year left on his current contract. The club is understood to be targeting a profit on the £9.5 million fee they paid to bring him in back in 2022.
Enciso’s loan stint at Ipswich failed to make the desired impact, with Brown suggesting the youngster did little to stake a claim for a place in Brighton’s first team.
“He went out on loan last season because the manager didn’t see a future for him, and nothing’s changed. He didn’t exactly shine at Ipswich, and there’s been no sign he’s ready to step up,”Brown explained.
“If Brighton can recoup or even make a profit on their initial investment, they’ll consider that good business.”
The Seagulls are said to be bracing for a busy window with several players potentially heading out the exit door. The approach under Hürzeler seems clear: anyone not considered a core part of the project will be moved on if a reasonable offer is tabled.
Enciso is just one of several players now deemed expendable. As previously reported by *Football Insider*, Brighton left-back Pervis Estupiñán has informed the club he wishes to join Manchester United and has requested a transfer. Meanwhile, Joao Pedro is also believed to be eager for a move to a higher-profile club, with interest from Champions League contenders Chelsea and Newcastle United intensifying.
In addition, Matt O’Riley — who joined from Celtic — could be sold after expressing frustration over his limited role at Brighton. According to Brown, Hürzeler is willing to sanction exits for players who don’t fit his system, regardless of their reputations or prior transfer fees.
Ferguson Also Linked with Exit After West Ham Struggles
Another player whose future at the Amex appears uncertain is Republic of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson. Following a disappointing loan spell at West Ham, where he managed just one league start and a total of 151 minutes, Brighton are reportedly weighing up whether to send him out again or sanction a permanent move. Football Insider had earlier revealed Everton’s interest in the forward, with David Moyes believed to be confident in his ability to unlock Ferguson’s potential.
As Brighton reshape their squad under new leadership, it’s becoming clear that the club is entering a transition phase. Fringe players such as Enciso are likely to be moved on, while the club looks to reinvest in fresh talent more aligned with Hürzeler’s vision.
