AliousTottenham Hotspur endured another frustrating evening despite initially taking the lead through Dominic Solanke.
The north London side’s hopes quickly unraveled after Micky van de Ven was sent off, with Igor Tudor’s team conceding three goals in the space of 12 minutes—dealing a major blow to their chances of surviving in the Premier League.
The sudden collapse prompted hundreds of Spurs supporters to leave the stadium before half-time, and those who remained saw little improvement from the hosts after the break.
One of the few emotional moments from Tottenham came in the 74th minute when Pedro Porro was substituted. The Spanish full-back was replaced by Xavi Simons as part of a double substitution that also saw Richarlison come on for Solanke.
As Porro walked off the pitch, he turned toward the touchline and angrily confronted the fourth official, Ruebyn Ricardo. Television footage showed the defender shouting while the official pointed toward the bench in an attempt to calm him down.
Porro’s frustration appeared to stem from several refereeing decisions during the match. While Van de Ven was dismissed for bringing down Ismaila Sarr inside the penalty area, Tottenham had earlier been helped by a VAR decision that ruled out what would have been Palace’s opening goal. Sarr had initially thought he had scored before the effort was disallowed for offside shortly before Solanke’s strike.
Still visibly upset, Porro stormed into the dugout, hitting a chair before eventually sitting down beside his teammates.
Earlier in the game, he had also been angered when referee Andy Madley declined to award a free-kick following a clash with Daichi Kamada of Crystal Palace.
The incident summed up a difficult night for Tottenham, who suffered their fifth straight Premier League defeat. The loss leaves Spurs sitting 16th in the table, only one point above the relegation zone, with West Ham United’s victory over Fulham on Wednesday increasing the pressure on the struggling London club.
