Leeds United Leading Race for Brighton Defender Igor Julio—Despite His Liverpool Dream
Leeds United may not be done reinforcing their backline this summer, even after securing the signing of Jaka Bijol. With uncertainty surrounding Pascal Struijk’s future at Elland Road, the club appears to be in the market for additional depth at centre-back as they prepare for life back in the Premier League. One name now heavily linked is Brighton defender Igor Julio.
According to reports from *El Diario Vasco* (via *LeedsUnited.News*), Leeds are among several clubs eyeing the 27-year-old Brazilian, who joined Brighton from Fiorentina two years ago. Despite limited appearances last season—just 16 across all competitions—Igor’s top-flight experience and physical presence make him an appealing option.
Brighton are reportedly open to offloading him this summer, and Leeds could take advantage. However, the Whites will face competition from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace and Wolves, as well as Spanish side Real Sociedad.
Interestingly, Igor has publicly admitted that his dream is to play for Liverpool. In an earlier interview, he even suggested that his Brighton teammate João Pedro—currently being courted by Chelsea—should instead aim for a move to Anfield, adding: *“I’ve always dreamed of playing for Liverpool and I would go there.”*
For now, Leeds are weighing their options, but with Igor likely falling within their transfer budget, he remains a viable and realistic target. Whether his Liverpool aspirations become a distraction or a motivator remains to be seen—but for Leeds, he could be a valuable addition to a squad aiming to avoid relegation and re-establish itself in the Premier League.
