Despite the Seagulls reportedly preparing a contract and new manager Fabian Hürzeler personally pushing for the transfer, the Austrian international appears to be heading in a different direction.
Back in May, Austrian outlets highlighted Brighton’s strong interest in the 24-year-old, and Wimmer’s agent, Frank Schreier, confirmed that Premier League clubs had been in touch — Brighton chief among them.
Hürzeler, a known admirer of Wimmer’s direct and energetic playing style, was believed to be spearheading efforts to bring the attacker to the Amex Stadium as part of his summer rebuild.
However, a new report from German publications *Aller Zeitung* and *Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung* now paints a very different picture.
According to their sources, Wimmer has turned down the opportunity to join Brighton, despite the club having a contract offer ready.
The player reportedly has his sights set on a different challenge, although his next destination remains unclear.
This news comes as a setback for Brighton, who are eager to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
Wimmer, with his Bundesliga experience and international pedigree, was seen as a key target.
But with the Austrian now opting to explore alternatives, the Seagulls will have to look elsewhere to bolster their forward line.
While the club’s pursuit may not be completely over, for now, it seems Patrick Wimmer has politely declined Brighton’s approach — signaling that his summer move may lie away from the south coast.
