FC Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly considering Cristian Romero as a potential fallback option if a move for Alessandro Bastoni proves too costly this summer.

Bastoni remains Barcelona’s primary defensive target, but his €70 million valuation could place him beyond the club’s financial reach. As a result, Deco has begun exploring alternative solutions, with Romero emerging as a serious candidate.

Recent reports suggest Deco traveled to London to hold discussions involving several Tottenham Hotspur players, at a time when Spurs are locked in a tense battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

According to Diario Sport, Barcelona have already made contact with Romero’s representatives to assess the feasibility of a potential move to Camp Nou.

Romero is highly regarded for his aggressive defending, pace, and leadership qualities. Despite being naturally right-footed, he is viewed as a commanding presence at the back, with the mentality and character suited to Barcelona’s demands.

The Argentine defender could be on his way out of Tottenham if the club suffers relegation. He is also expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, meaning he will play no part in their fight for survival.
