The Black Cats have wrapped up a deal to sign experienced defender Reinildo, with the official paperwork expected to be signed on Monday in Madrid, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.
The 31-year-old, who recently became a free agent following the end of his contract with Atletico Madrid, has chosen to join Sunderland despite offers from other clubs.
He will sign a two-year deal with the Wearside club, becoming their third summer recruit after midfielders Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki.
Reinildo’s arrival is a major coup for Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris, who is assembling a side capable of competing with established Premier League outfits.
The Mozambican international brings not only top-level experience but also crucial versatility, able to operate as a left-back or centre-back – something the newly promoted side sorely needs.
