Wolves fight to derail Newcastle swoop with shock contract twist for prized striker

Jørgen Strand Larsen’s long-rumoured switch to Newcastle United has been thrown into doubt after Wolves drew up plans to table a lucrative new deal to keep their star forward at Molineux, according to *Football Insider*.

Speaking on the latest *Inside Track* podcast, senior reporter Pete O’Rourke explained that sources close to the situation insist Wolves have no intention of sanctioning a sale, despite Newcastle’s ongoing pursuit and two rejected big-money bids.

The Magpies have already landed German striker Nick Woltemade in a £69million record signing, yet Eddie Howe is still pushing for extra firepower, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Alexander Isak’s future. Liverpool are circling the Swede in a potential British record move, and Newcastle view Strand Larsen as a ready-made replacement.

Wolves, however, remain adamant. After losing Matheus Cunha and Rayan Aït-Nouri earlier in the window, the Midlands club are determined not to sacrifice another key player. Vitor Pereira is said to be preparing fresh talks to reward Strand Larsen with an improved contract, despite the Norwegian making it clear he is open to leaving for Champions League football with Newcastle.

Strand Larsen was absent in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Everton due to a minor injury, but Wolves still see him as central to their plans. “They want to keep him,” O’Rourke revealed. “They insist he’s not for sale this window and are working to fend off Newcastle’s interest by rewarding his progress.”

Meanwhile, Newcastle’s transfer dilemma continues. With Woltemade now signed and Isak’s future hanging in the balance, the final days of the window could decide whether Wolves’ resolve holds firm or if Strand Larsen finally gets his desired Premier League move.
