AliousFabian Hurzeler urges Brighton players to respond with resilience ahead of Tottenham clash
Fabian Hurzeler has praised Brighton’s squad for showing “a strong reaction” following their disappointing defeat to Bournemouth, but he insists they must maintain composure and resilience if they encounter setbacks against Tottenham at the Amex Stadium.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Premier League clash, Hurzeler offered a more candid critique of last week’s loss than he did immediately after the game.
He expressed disappointment at the team’s lack of intensity and the noticeable gaps that appeared between the defensive, midfield, and attacking lines.
The Brighton head coach also revealed that honest, constructive discussions have taken place behind closed doors to address these issues.
Hurzeler acknowledged that the recent departure of technical director David Weir may have affected the players.
“They are human beings, and many had a strong relationship with David,” he said.
“We have to accept that in some moments it affected the players—they are not machines. But now we need to focus on football, on the things we can influence, on our performance.”
Despite the challenges, Hurzeler noted encouraging signs during training this week.
“I’ve seen a group that truly enjoys playing together, trains intensely, and I am confident we are ready for tomorrow. We want to perform better for a longer period of the game than we showed against Bournemouth.”
The Brighton boss is clearly focused on ensuring his players respond positively and build consistency as they prepare to face Tottenham.
