Rangers Insiders Reveal Why Russell Martin Finally Restored Nicolas Raskin to the Line-Up

Nicolas Raskin has returned to Rangers’ starting XI after a brief exile, and insiders believe they know exactly why Russell Martin has changed course.

The Belgian midfielder was frozen out of the squad for three matches following the 6-0 Champions League playoff defeat to Club Brugge. However, Martin handed him a recall in the 2-0 Premier Sports Cup win over Hibernian — and Raskin immediately justified the decision by scoring the opener and playing a vital role in securing progress to the semi-finals.

Raskin’s return appears to have put an end to tensions between him and his manager, with Martin describing the omission as something that may have been “necessary for the squad.” Both sides now seem keen to move forward in the club’s best interests.

Former Rangers captain Lee McCulloch, who has observed training closely this season, insists that the focus has shifted back to unity. “Everyone is working incredibly hard, and Nico being back is a huge boost. He was outstanding against Hibs, and his goal showed exactly what he brings to the side,” McCulloch said, highlighting that a fully fit Raskin would strengthen any team.

Ex-coach Alex Rae, who previously worked with Raskin under Philippe Clement, believes Martin bowed to a combination of factors: the player’s undeniable influence, fan pressure, and the timing of a crucial cup tie. Rae pointed out that Raskin not only scored but was also instrumental in the build-up to the second goal, proving his value in key moments.

He concluded: “Whatever has gone on between them, both Raskin and Martin have to move beyond it — because the team is stronger when Nico is involved.”

Rangers’ decision to reintegrate their midfield star could prove pivotal as Martin looks to stabilize results and keep fans onside.
