Fans Chant ‘Sacked in the Morning’ as Postecoglou’s Forest Suffer Europa League Collapse

Ange Postecoglou’s struggles at Nottingham Forest deepened after his side slumped to a painful 3-2 defeat against Danish outfit Midtjylland in the Europa League, prolonging his winless start at the club.

Despite controlling large spells of the game and creating numerous opportunities in the second half, Forest were undone by yet more defensive lapses. Midtjylland capitalised on their set-piece frailties, with Ousmane Diao and Mads Bech Sørensen both scoring early to put the visitors in command.

Chris Wood had two goals ruled out for offside, while Midtjylland goalkeeper Elías Rafn Ólafsson pulled off a crucial save to deny Forest an equaliser. Instead, Valdemar Andreasen struck late in the 87th minute to seal the Danish side’s third goal, prompting boos and chants of “sacked in the morning” from the home supporters aimed squarely at Postecoglou.

Wood did eventually pull one back from the penalty spot in stoppage time, but it was not enough to avoid a humiliating night at the City Ground. Owner Evangelos Marinakis looked visibly unimpressed from the stands as the fans’ anger spilled over.

Sky Sports’ Anton Toloui described the loss as “self-inflicted,” pointing out Forest’s repeated inability to deal with corners — a flaw that has plagued them throughout the season. “This was supposed to be a celebration of Forest’s return to Europe, instead it marks another low,” he added.

Former striker Lucy Ward, speaking on TNT Sports, echoed those frustrations, insisting something deeper is amiss. “There is something not quite right and it has manifested onto the pitch. That is a poor result for Forest,” she said.

Postecoglou, already under growing pressure after a dismal domestic start, now faces even more scrutiny, with Forest fans running out of patience.
