His dismissal marks the fourth managerial change in under three years, leaving the club searching for stability once again.
Gerrard in the Frame for Ibrox Return
Gerrard remains a fan favourite in Glasgow after guiding Rangers to their first league title in a decade back in 2021, ending Celtic’s domestic dominance. His success and enduring connection to the club make him an obvious candidate as Rangers explore their options.
According to Sky Sports, both sides are open to discussions, with Rangers eager to speak to Gerrard about a possible reunion. However, insiders warn that his situation is “complicated.” The former Liverpool captain is currently living in Bahrain after leaving Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq earlier this year, and his family has reportedly become settled in the Middle East.
That reality presents logistical and personal hurdles to a quick agreement, while Gerrard would also require assurances about the club’s direction, given the instability that has plagued recent managerial tenures.
Rangers Explore Alternatives
Although Gerrard is a priority target, Rangers are keeping their options open. Former Everton manager Sean Dyche has been identified as another serious candidate, with his proven ability to stabilise struggling squads appealing to the board.
Pundit Chris Sutton believes Dyche could be a smart appointment, telling the BBC that Rangers fans won’t accept mediocrity and need someone pragmatic who can make the team competitive again.
Dyche, however, is understood to be uninterested in the vacancy at this stage. Other potential names include Graham Potter, Kevin Muscat, and more unlikely figures such as Rafa Benitez and Gareth Southgate.
