In recent days, Italian sources have highlighted Sunderland’s ongoing pursuit of Lazio midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi. Sunderland boss Régis Le Bris recently confirmed he’s been communicating with the Frenchman — a player he previously coached during their time together at FC Lorient.
However, Guendouzi isn’t the only Lazio asset drawing Sunderland’s attention ahead of the winter transfer period.
According to La Repubblica, via LazioNews24, Sunderland are now being linked with another Lazio midfielder — Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. The Premier League side is actively exploring multiple options to reinforce their midfield in January, and the 24-year-old Nigeria international has become a serious consideration.
Dele-Bashiru featured in four league matches earlier this season before being sidelined by a hamstring injury in September, and he has not returned to action since.
Although he’s under contract until 2028, Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri reportedly views him as a player who could be allowed to leave. The club appear open to a transfer, and the media report states a move for Dele-Bashiru in January is “possible.”
Sunderland could benefit from the situation, but it remains uncertain whether they will actively push for his signing when the market opens. His future — and Sunderland’s intentions — may ultimately depend on how the wider January transfer landscape develops.
