Nottingham Forest have ramped up their efforts to land Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood, with sources revealing that further contact has been made as Sean Dyche reshapes his squad ahead of January.
Forest’s interest in the highly rated 20-year-old is not new. The England Under-21 international has been admired by Dyche for some time due to his relentless work rate, tactical intelligence, and ability to perform in multiple roles. Comfortable both in central midfield and at right-back, Hinshelwood is viewed as the type of all-action operator Dyche values highly.
Initial discussions between Forest and Brighton took place toward the end of November, during which Hinshelwood was identified as a leading target for the Tricky Trees. Forest are eager to strengthen both their midfield options and defensive depth during the winter window, and the Brighton academy product ticks several boxes.
In recent days, Forest have revisited those talks, sounding out Brighton once again to see if there has been any movement in their stance. However, the response from the south coast remains consistent. Brighton continue to regard Hinshelwood as untouchable and have made it clear internally that they have no intention of sanctioning a January departure.
The Seagulls see the Worthing-born midfielder as one of their brightest homegrown prospects and a key figure in head coach Fabian Hürzeler’s long-term project. With a contract running until 2028 and the player settled and happy at the Amex Stadium, club sources insist there is no appetite to entertain offers midway through the season.
Hinshelwood’s reputation across the Premier League remains strong despite injury issues restricting his involvement this campaign. When fit, his influence has been clear, most notably with a dramatic late winner against Brentford in November that highlighted his composure and match-winning instincts.
Forest’s pursuit of Hinshelwood aligns neatly with Dyche’s wider recruitment philosophy: targeting high-energy, versatile players capable of making an immediate impact while also offering long-term value. With the Reds aiming to consolidate a strong league position—or potentially push higher—midfield reinforcements are seen as increasingly important.
That need is heightened by uncertainty elsewhere in the squad. As previously reported by Dean Jones, Douglas Luiz is not currently expected to remain at the City Ground beyond this season. The Brazilian, on loan from Juventus, can be signed permanently for around €25m (£22m), but Dyche is understood to be unconvinced that activating the option represents the best use of funds unless Luiz significantly improves his standing.
Brighton’s history of standing firm on key assets suggests Forest are likely to face resistance again, regardless of their persistence. With January fast approaching, Forest may already be drawing up contingency plans should Hinshelwood remain firmly off the market.
