Everton are on the verge of landing one of Chelsea’s brightest academy graduates, with an agreement in principle now in place for the transfer of left winger Tyrique George, according to trusted reporter David Ornstein.
The 19-year-old has been one of the standout products of Chelsea’s famed Cobham Academy, steadily rising through the ranks and earning his first-team breakthrough last season.
George made his senior debut under former head coach Enzo Maresca during Chelsea’s 2–1 defeat to Servette in the UEFA Conference League play-off on August 29, 2024, a moment that marked his arrival on the big stage.
His breakthrough truly caught the eye months later when he found the net against Fulham on April 20, becoming Chelsea’s youngest Premier League goalscorer at 19 years and 75 days — a club record not seen since Callum Hudson-Odoi’s strike against Burnley back in January 2020.
Despite those flashes of promise, George has struggled for consistent minutes this season.
Competition intensified following Chelsea’s recruitment drive, which reportedly included the arrivals of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho, while George himself was close to leaving the club last summer.
As a result, his role at Stamford Bridge diminished, even though many tipped him for a full breakout campaign.
Still, the England U21 international managed to impress when called upon, registering 12 goal contributions in 37 appearances across all competitions — a solid return that kept him firmly on the radar of several Premier League and European clubs.
With chances limited in west London, Everton have now moved decisively. Ornstein reports that the **Toffees have reached an agreement with Chelsea to bring George to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, beating off rival interest.
The proposed deal is understood to be a six-month loan with an option to buy permanently in the summer, pending official confirmation. George has reportedly been granted permission to travel to Merseyside to complete his medical and finalise personal terms.
Everton’s relationship with Chelsea in the loan market is well established. Past moves for the likes of **Kurt Zouma, Armando Broja, and most notably **Romelu Lukaku — whose loan spell evolved into a permanent transfer in 2014 before he scored **68 Premier League goals in 141 appearances — underline a pathway George could realistically follow.
