Even if the club manages to avoid dropping out of the Premier League, reports suggest they may already have missed their chance to appoint what many viewed as the ideal long-term manager.
Spurs were beaten 3–1 at home by Crystal Palace on Thursday night, leaving them with just two wins in their last 20 league matches and only one point above the relegation zone with nine games remaining.
Their run-in looks particularly difficult, with upcoming fixtures against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Leeds United. Considering the form they are currently in, the prospect of Tottenham playing in the Championship next season—something that would have seemed unimaginable last summer after their UEFA Europa League triumph and the appointment of Thomas Frank—is now a real possibility.
Frank and Tudor failed to stabilise Spurs
Frank initially made a promising start after arriving, but performances and results soon declined, and he ultimately struggled to reverse the team’s slide. While the decision to dismiss him was widely viewed as justified—perhaps even overdue—the move to replace him with Tudor has so far failed to improve matters.
Tudor is known for his disciplined, defence-first approach and a demanding managerial style. However, Tottenham have lost all three matches since his appointment, and there has been little evidence of progress on the pitch. As a result, many supporters feel the football being delivered does not match their expectations for the club.
Because of the continued struggles, Tottenham are reportedly considering another managerial change if it would help secure their top-flight status. The club may even abandon the idea of a short-term appointment if the right candidate becomes available.
Spurs may have missed out on Iraola
One coach who had previously been admired by the club is Andoni Iraola. Tottenham interviewed the current AFC Bournemouth manager last year before eventually deciding to hire Frank.
Iraola has since continued to impress at the Vitality Stadium, guiding Bournemouth into contention for European qualification for the first time in the club’s history. Widely praised—analyst Sam Tighe once described him as “the best young coach in the world”—the Spanish manager has built a strong reputation.
His contract is due to expire at the end of the season, which might normally present Tottenham with another opportunity to approach him. However, reports suggest Bournemouth are confident of persuading him to stay, and sources indicate that even if he leaves, Iraola currently has no interest in taking the Spurs job.
With several attractive opportunities likely to emerge for him, Tottenham’s chance to secure the highly rated coach may already have passed—leaving the club to deal with the consequences as they battle to stay in the Premier League.
