Championship season, Southampton will face Leeds United at Elland Road in a match that will have no impact on Southampton’s final league position.
However, the game carries significant importance for Leeds United. A win for the Whites, coupled with a loss for Ipswich Town, would secure automatic promotion for Daniel Farke’s team.
Matteo acknowledges the possibility that Southampton might go through the motions and prioritize avoiding injuries to key players over pushing for a win.
Nevertheless, Matteo expects Southampton to approach the game with intensity and aim for a victory against Leeds United.
Assessing Southampton’s qualities, Matteo told LUTV: “They are a team with quality and have a few threats, especially in the final third. But they can either protect their players since they are definitely in the playoffs, or they can go for it because it’s Leeds United. I think they will come and have a go.”
If Leeds United fail to secure automatic promotion, the only scenario where they could face Southampton again would be in the playoff final, as Southampton are guaranteed to finish fourth.
