AliousReports suggest that Sean Dyche has outlined a key condition regarding the possibility of replacing Igor Tudor at Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Burnley, Everton and Nottingham Forest manager has reportedly emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite to succeed Tudor at Spurs. With the North London side struggling in the Premier League, Dyche could soon receive a call to help steer the club away from relegation danger.
Tudor’s tenure has started disastrously, with the Croatian losing all four of his opening matches in charge. Tottenham’s form has deteriorated further compared to the latter stages under Thomas Frank, intensifying fears that the club could slip into the relegation zone. Spurs currently sit just one point above the drop with nine league games left to play.
The pressure increased following Tuesday night’s humiliating 5–2 defeat to Atlético Madrid. Despite the result, Tottenham have decided to keep Tudor in charge for at least Sunday’s clash against Liverpool F.C..
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has warned that Tudor’s position remains extremely fragile.
Romano explained that Tottenham are going through a very difficult period after the heavy loss to Atlético. Tudor has now lost his first four matches in charge — something that has never happened before with a new Spurs manager — and the club is currently on a six-game losing streak.
Although Tottenham confirmed Tudor will handle the pre-match press conference ahead of the Liverpool fixture, Romano indicated that the manager could still be dismissed at any moment if results fail to improve. He also added that the club’s longer-term strategy has always involved appointing a new permanent manager in the summer, given that Tudor only signed a short-term deal.
Two names said to be high on Spurs’ shortlist for the long term are Roberto De Zerbi and Mauricio Pochettino.
However, if Tottenham decide to make another managerial change before the end of the season — particularly in a bid to avoid relegation — a more pragmatic option like Dyche could be considered.
According to reports from talkSPORT, Dyche would be hesitant to take the job on a purely short-term basis. The report claims the experienced coach would want assurances of a contract that extends beyond the end of the season, similar to the type of commitment he previously sought before taking roles elsewhere.
The report also mentions two alternative options Spurs could consider if they move on from Tudor. One possibility is reappointing former interim boss Ryan Mason, while another is club legend Robbie Keane, who is currently managing Hungarian champions Ferencvárosi TC.
