Leeds United have secured the long-term future of the young star

Leeds United have secured the long-term future of Darryl Ombang, their highly-rated England Under-17 international goalkeeper, by tying him down to a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2026.

The 18-year-old shot-stopper, who has already made two appearances for Leeds’ Under-21 side, has spent the current season on loan at Ossett United, gaining valuable first-team experience. Ombang has progressed through the ranks at Leeds, having featured 21 times for the club’s Under-18 team.

Ombang’s impressive form at youth level earned him international recognition with England’s Under-17 side, where he made his debut in a 2-0 victory over Romania. This marked the beginning of his rise to prominence on the global stage, as he went on to represent the Young Lions against Slovakia and the United States as well.

In an official statement, Leeds United expressed their delight at securing Ombang’s services, stating: “Leeds United is pleased to announce that Darryl Ombang has committed to the club by signing a new contract that will last until the summer of 2026. The 18-year-old, who joined the Whites ahead of the 2021-2022 season and has since made appearances for both the Under-18s and Under-21s teams, has impressed at Thorp Arch.”

The statement further highlighted Ombang’s international exploits, noting: “Ombang has made three appearances for the Young Lions’ Under-17 squad while representing England at the youth level internationally. His debut came in a 2-0 away victory over Romania. We at Leeds United are delighted to hear that Darryl has decided to extend his contract with the team, and we’re excited to watch his progress at Thorp Arch.”

Ombang opted to join Leeds United’s academy over Bradford City’s in July 2021, with the Whites reportedly paying a fee to secure the talented goalkeeper’s services. His new contract, signed in 2022, marked his first professional deal with the club.
