Despite being early favorites for a straight promotion, Leeds found themselves locked in a contest for the top spots with Southampton, eventually yielding to Ipswich Town and Leicester City.
However, after defeating Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion in the semi-finals, Leeds and Southampton are now poised for a prompt return to the Premier League, should they triumph at Wembley.
Leeds’ quest for promotion has been a strenuous journey under Farke, especially with a late-season downturn, managing only a single win in the six matches leading up to the clash with Norwich. This sequence of results sparked some dissent among the fans.
Nonetheless, Sharpe, who donned the Leeds jersey 35 times and netted six goals from 1996 to 1999, is convinced that Farke is the best choice to lead the club forward, regardless of what happens in the final at Wembley.
Now 52, Sharpe is aware of the rigorous demands of the Championship and highlights the significance of stability and consistency for achieving lasting success.
“Absolutely, Leeds should support Farke even if they lose,” Sharpe conveyed to Football League World.
“It’s counterproductive to keep switching managers, and Farke has been outstanding this season.
Leeds just missed out on automatic promotion, and it’s consistency that breeds long-term triumph.”
Sharpe trusts in Farke’s ability to perform at this tier, advising that if Leeds does not ascend this season, they should give Farke another shot at propelling the team to the Premier League next year.
While conceding that some squad changes and strategic alterations might be necessary, particularly when facing teams that defend deeply, Sharpe underscores Farke’s track record as a two-time Championship laureate and his stewardship of Leeds to a third-place finish this season, in spite of the obstacles encountered.
A steadfast commitment to Farke’s managerial expertise, along with a solid team, may well be advantageous for Leeds in the future, especially given the trials they have faced this season, including an intense summer of player transfers.
