However, the 31-year-old encountered challenges at times when deployed as a traditional number nine, particularly against deep-defending teams, where his lack of physicality and ability to hold up play with his back to goal resulted in him becoming a peripheral figure on occasion.
As the new season approaches, uncertainty surrounds Son’s primary position, with reports suggesting that Tottenham are actively pursuing a dedicated centre-forward during the summer transfer window. Additionally, questions have arisen regarding Richarlison’s future at the club, according to ESPN.
Regardless of where he is deployed, Son has affirmed his commitment to the team, expressing his readiness to embrace any role assigned by the manager. When asked about his preferred position for the upcoming season, the Spurs captain light-heartedly told Football.London, “I don’t mind. (Laughs) It’s the gaffer’s decision, so I’ll be ready for any position. So if he puts me as keeper, I will be playing keeper.”
