AliousCrysencio Summerville has pledged his unwavering dedication to leading Leeds United to victory over Southampton in the upcoming Sunday play-off final. He also took the opportunity to quell rumors about his future and to shine a spotlight on his preferred teammate at Elland Road.
Following Leeds United’s drop from the Premier League a year ago, a wave of departures ensued, which was met with fan approval. Amidst the turmoil, 49ers Enterprises seized control from Andrea Radrizzani, installing Daniel Farke as the new skipper. Through it all, Summerville’s allegiance to Leeds never wavered.
After a lackluster finish to the previous season, Summerville is now laser-focused on propelling Leeds back to top-flight football. As they gear up for the Championship play-off final against Southampton, he boasts an impressive tally of 21 goals and the accolade of Championship Player of the Year.
In a candid reflection with TEAMtalk, Summerville recounted last summer’s relegation as a crushing blow. Yet, he praised the team’s resilience, spotlighting Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu, and Connor Roberts for their character.
“The coaching staff has fortified us,” he said, “and our unity is palpable, as is our bond with the supporters.”
Despite swirling transfer speculations linking him to a host of clubs including Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Bayer Leverkusen, and Chelsea, Summerville brushed aside any notion of a departure.
“Staying was always part of my blueprint for immediate promotion,” he affirmed. “My commitment was to Leeds, and after renewing my contract, my sights were set on ascending to the Premier League with the team.”
Summerville’s ambition to be Leeds’ linchpin this season has been a driving force behind his decision to stay put. “Others may perceive it as pressure, but I embrace it as a challenge,” he declared. “I thrive on being a pivotal figure, contributing not just in scoring or assists, but as a leader.
