Emery Pens Massive New Deal After Champions League Heroics

Aston Villa have moved swiftly to tie down the man who masterminded their stunning return to the Champions League, with manager Unai Emery putting pen-to-paper on a new five-year contract that will keep him at Villa Park until 2029.

The 52-year-old Spaniard has wasted no time in becoming an iconic figure among the Villa faithful after taking the club from 17th place when he arrived in October 2022 to a fourth-place finish and Champions League qualification this season.

Emery’s existing deal still had three years remaining, but Villa have ripped that up and handed their inspirational boss a bumper new long-term agreement as a symbol of their ambition and commitment to his philosophy.

“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club. There’s a great chemistry at Aston Villa,” beamed Emery after signing on the dotted line. “The fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”

In addition to clinching a top four spot, Emery also guided Villa to the Europa Conference League semi-finals in their first European campaign for 13 years. His impact has been transformative.

Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris hailed the new deal as the start of an exciting new era, saying: “We are building something special here with Unai at its core. As we move into our historic 150th anniversary year, there is a lot to look forward to with Unai at the helm.”

Having secured the signature that mattered most, Villa can now focus on strengthening Emery’s squad for their Champions League adventure. But they have already captured the biggest prize.
