AliousSimon Grayson has urged Leeds United to secure Joe Rodon on a permanent transfer this summer, despite the club’s failure to gain promotion to the Premier League through the playoffs.
Rodon joined Leeds on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur last summer but will now depart following the playoff final defeat to Southampton at Wembley.
Initially, there were concerns about Leeds’ financial capability to make the deal permanent.
However, the recent news of a potential Red Bull sponsorship could provide the much-needed boost in the transfer window that manager Daniel Farke requires.
This could pave the way for Rodon’s return to Elland Road on a permanent basis.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Sky Sports pundit Grayson emphasized the importance of securing Rodon’s services, stating, “Out of the non-contracted players, I think Joe Rodon would be a real good addition to the team.
You don’t play for Tottenham and be a Welsh international without being a good player, so I think that fits the bill.”
Rodon was undoubtedly one of Leeds’ most consistent performers throughout the season, contributing to the team’s impressive defensive record of keeping the most clean sheets in the Championship.
Alongside his compatriot Ethan Ampadu, the Welsh duo formed a solid defensive partnership that played a pivotal role in Farke’s system, protecting goalkeeper Illan Meslier.
Rodon made 50 appearances across all competitions during his loan spell, and the Leeds hierarchy will be keen to make his stay permanent.
However, the possibility of securing his services hinges on the financial situation at the club, which remains uncertain and needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
There is a likelihood that key players like Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, and Wilfried Gnonto may depart the club this summer.
In that scenario, bringing in established talents like Rodon on a permanent basis could prove vital for Leeds United.
While there may be Premier League interest in the Welsh international, if Farke can secure his return to Elland Road, it could be an excellent piece of business for the club.
