AliousLeeds United are reportedly keen to sell Brenden Aaronson before the club is required to pay over £70 million in historical transfer installments, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
As reported by Stuart Rayner in the publication’s June 4 edition, Leeds may have to wait until July to recoup at least a portion of the £24.7 million fee they paid Red Bull Salzburg for Aaronson in 2022.
This delay is due to Aaronson’s expected participation in the Copa America with the United States Men’s National Team.
Aaronson is believed to prefer rejoining Union Berlin, where he spent the 2022-23 season on loan with mixed success as the club narrowly avoided Bundesliga relegation.
However, Union Berlin has yet to make his temporary move permanent.
Rayner stated: “With the Whites needing to bring in extra transfer revenue after missing promotion to the Premier League, and with Aaronson never having played second-tier football, a parting of the ways – even if it is only another loan – seems most likely.”
He further added: “Leeds have been helped by a major sponsorship deal with Red Bull and are due transfer installments themselves, but will have to be wary of profit and sustainability rules.”
It is unlikely that more than a couple of Leeds United’s returning loanees, including Jack Harrison, Marc Roca, Max Wober, Diego Llorente, Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood, Rasmus Kristensen, Darko Gyabi, and Sonny Perkins, in addition to Aaronson, will remain at the club by the end of the summer transfer window.
While the Red Bull sponsorship deal – the largest in Championship history – provides financial muscle, Leeds still face significant work on both the footballing and financial fronts.
Manager Daniel Farke aims to rebuild his squad for another promotion push, while the club’s board seeks to trim playing costs to meet guidelines.
