Exclusive: Tottenham Hotspur Preparing Bid for Brentford’s Ivan Toney
FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal that Tottenham Hotspur is gearing up to make an offer for Brentford striker Ivan Toney. According to sources, Spurs are putting together a personal terms package for the England international, who has been named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.
Ange Postecoglou’s side is expected to table a £40 million bid for Toney. The 27-year-old scored four goals in 17 Premier League appearances last season after serving a ban during the first half of the campaign.
Tottenham has been on the hunt for a center-forward to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich in 2023. FootballTransfers exclusively reported last July that Spurs were eyeing Toney as a potential replacement, and they are now ready to revisit what could be a bargain deal.
Initially, Brentford had slapped a £100 million price tag on Toney to ward off interest from Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal in January. The Bees successfully kept hold of their star striker, but with just one year remaining on his contract, they are now taking a more realistic stance to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.
While Brentford’s valuation of Toney has come down, they are unlikely to accept Tottenham’s opening offer so early in the window. However, with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal seemingly cooling their pursuit of the England frontman, Spurs have a golden opportunity to land a transfer coup.
Alongside their move for Toney, Tottenham is also making progress on a deal for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, as previously reported by FootballTransfers in April.
