AliousKeith Wyness Calls for 3-Month Takeover Time Limit
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has insisted the Premier League should impose a “three-month” deadline for completing top-flight club takeovers.
Speaking on the Football Insider podcast, Wyness, who now runs a consultancy advising elite clubs, said such a time limit would provide “greater clarity to fans” amid drawn-out sagas like Everton’s with 777 Partners.
Wyness believes the league has a “duty to safeguard the football product” and avoid damaging clubs’ on-field operations with prolonged uncertainty around ownership changes.
His proposed three-month window would allow ample time for bids to be assessed initially, with the option of an extension if needed.
But he argues shorter timelines are required to avoid situations that have plagued Everton over the past year.
The comments come as Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has received fresh takeover interest from several US investors after his proposed deal with 777 Partners fell through after many months.
Wyness insists “staff, players and the manager all need that clarity” that a firm time limit could provide during takeover periods.
