AliousAston Villa is open to negotiating the transfer of defender Diego Carlos during the upcoming transfer window, according to reports from Football Insider.
The club is under pressure to sell several players soon due to their financial constraints related to profit and sustainability regulations, with a significant transfer expected before June 30th.
It was disclosed by Football Insider on June 12th that key midfielder Douglas Luiz, aged 26, is engaged in discussions to transfer to Juventus in a complex exchange deal. Additionally, 20-year-old striker Jhon Duran is contemplating a switch to Chelsea.
31-year-old Carlos, who regularly featured in the starting lineup last season, might also depart from Villa Park in the summer as part of the club’s efforts to achieve financial equilibrium. He is currently signed with the club until 2026.
Despite a challenging start at Villa after transferring from Sevilla for £26 million in 2022, where he missed most of his inaugural season, Carlos made a strong comeback.
He played in 38 matches across all competitions last season, starting 28, contributing to Unai Emery’s team securing a spot in the Champions League.
Nevertheless, the Brazilian might be on his way out of Villa Park as the club is willing to entertain offers for him.
With reported losses of £119 million for the fiscal year 2022-23, Villa is reportedly nearing the threshold of profit and sustainability rules.
Keith Wyness, the former CEO of Villa, suggested to Football Insider that midfielder Jacob Ramsey might follow Luiz and Duran in leaving the club this summer.
