AliousNewcastle United have reportedly made contact with Crystal Palace to express their interest in acquiring the services of Michael Olise, the exciting young attacking player.
According to reports from BBC Sport, the Magpies are not alone in their pursuit of the 22-year-old winger, with other top clubs also registering their interest with the Eagles.
Among the clubs keen on securing Olise’s signature are European giants Bayern Munich and Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The report suggests that Palace will only entertain offers of £60 million or more for the talented Frenchman, who has a release clause worth around that figure.
Any potential deal for Olise is expected to be complex, with percentages due to his former club Reading, the player himself, and Crystal Palace. Chelsea’s unsuccessful attempt to trigger his release clause last summer, with a bid in the region of £35 million, highlights the intricacies involved in such a transfer.
Despite an injury-hit 2023/24 season, Olise’s impressive performances have caught the attention of several top clubs. Although he started just 14 Premier League games and made five substitute appearances, the 22-year-old managed an impressive 16 direct goal involvements, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists.
Olise’s journey began at the youth academies of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City before he settled at Reading’s academy at the age of 16. His breakthrough came in the 2020/21 Championship season, where he recorded 19 direct goal involvements, leading to Crystal Palace securing his services for £8 million.
Since joining the Eagles, Olise has continued to flourish, contributing 12 Premier League starts and 14 substitute appearances in his debut season, followed by 13 direct goal involvements in the 2022/23 campaign from 31 starts and six substitute appearances.
If Newcastle United were to secure Olise’s signature this summer, it would be a statement signing for Eddie Howe and the club.
The Magpies have already demonstrated their ability to attract talented young players, despite facing stiff competition, with the acquisitions of Isak, Gordon, Bruno, and Botman. There is no reason to rule out their chances of landing Olise, who remains eligible to represent England, France, Algeria, or Nigeria at the international level.
