AliousEverton might be compelled to sell Ben Godfrey after he declined the club’s latest contract offer this week, sources have informed Football Insider.
In the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke indicated that the Merseyside club may need to consider selling Godfrey this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
On 12 June, Football Insider reported that the English center-back had rejected multiple long-term contract offers from Everton.
Interest in Godfrey has emerged from top European clubs, with Football Insider revealing on 4 June that AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are leading the race to sign him this summer.
AC Milan, in particular, has maintained a long-term interest in the 26-year-old, having previously inquired about him during the January transfer window.
Everton were hesitant to let Godfrey go at that time, and he subsequently played a significant role in the latter half of the season, helping the team avoid relegation.
However, Sean Dyche’s side may now need to sell the defender this summer, as his contract is set to expire in June 2025.

Since joining Everton from Norwich City for £25 million in 2020, Godfrey’s tenure has been plagued by injuries.
He has made only 28 appearances in all competitions over the past two seasons, including 16 appearances last season during Everton’s battle against relegation.
Given his recent contract rejection, the club may need to reassess their position on his future at Goodison Park.
Last month, Football Insider reported that Everton would need to sell at least one major player before submitting their accounts at the end of June.
