AliousSources have informed Football Insider that Everton have reached an agreement to secure the services of Aston Villa’s young midfielder, Tim Iroegbunam, on a permanent basis.
The 20-year-old England Under-20 international is set to bolster Everton’s options in the center of the park.
After a breakthrough in negotiations, Everton have had their bid accepted for Iroegbunam, with the fee reportedly in the region of £10 million.
Aston Villa’s decision to sell the promising talent is driven by their need to generate funds and comply with the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), as they face the requirement to raise £60 million through player sales this summer.
Despite being highly regarded within Villa’s hierarchy, Iroegbunam has struggled for regular game time under Unai Emery’s management.
During the 2023-24 campaign, he made 15 appearances for the senior team but accumulated only 288 minutes on the pitch. However, he did feature in both legs of Villa’s Europa Conference League tie against Ajax, which they won 4-0 on aggregate.
While Ajax had previously shown interest in Iroegbunam, as revealed by Football Insider in March, it is now Everton who appear poised to secure his signature.
Aston Villa have already parted ways with homegrown talents like Aaron Ramsey and Jaden Philogene to comply with PSR, and Iroegbunam is set to become the next departure.
The former Queens Park Rangers loanee gained valuable experience during the 2022-23 season, making 28 starts in 33 total appearances and showcasing his versatility across various midfield roles, representing the most extensive senior exposure of his career to date.
