According to Jacobs, there is a scenario where the 18-year-old starlet remains at Leeds United and continues his development under manager Daniel Farke.
While multiple Leeds United players have been linked with summer departures as the club aims to raise funds and comply with financial regulations, Jacobs suggests that Gray’s focus remains on his short-term progression.
The talented English midfielder’s head has not been turned by offers of substantial money or the prospect of joining bigger clubs or teams competing in European competitions.
Drawing a parallel with Benjamin Sesko, who rejected Premier League interest to continue with RB Leipzig for at least another season, Jacobs indicates that Gray’s priorities align with pursuing the path that best serves his immediate development.
Despite significant interest and noise surrounding the midfielder, Leeds United could potentially retain his services.
“So I can see a scenario where Gray stays at Leeds because he’s not knocking on the door to leave.
His head is not turned by offers of big money or big clubs or European football,” Jacobs told GMS. “Like Benjamin Sesko, he’s thinking about what’s right for his short-term development, and that might actually mean, despite a lot of noise and a huge amount of interest, that Leeds are able to keep hold of him.”
In April, reports linked Gray to clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid following his impressive debut season with Leeds United.
Described as ‘phenomenal,’ the 18-year-old was fourth in minutes played for the Whites last season, playing a pivotal role in their unsuccessful promotion push.
In January, Leeds United acknowledged Gray’s potential by offering him a new contract until 2028, shortly after he signed his first professional deal.
