According to a report from L’Équipe, Premier League clubs Fulham and Everton have emerged as potential suitors for Stade Rennais’ 23-year-old full-back, Lorenz Assignon.

Assignon began the previous season as Rennes’ starting right-back, but the arrival of Julien Stéphan as the new manager led to a change in his fortunes.

Consequently, he departed the club in January, joining Burnley on a six-month loan deal with an option to make the move permanent.

While Burnley were keen to trigger the €10 million purchase option, Assignon himself did not wish to remain with the Clarets following their relegation to the EFL Championship.

As a result, the Frenchman finds himself back at Rennes, a club where his future appears uncertain. A departure is anticipated, and there is no shortage of interested parties.

According to L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille, OGC Nice, Galatasaray, Everton, and Fulham are all interested in acquiring the services of the full-back, who will be allowed to leave Rennes this summer. After a successful but brief stint in England with Burnley, Assignon could be set for a return to the Premier League.

With several clubs vying for his signature, the young defender finds himself at a crossroads, with the opportunity to potentially secure a move to a Premier League side or explore other options in France or abroad.

As the transfer window progresses, it will be interesting to see which club emerges as the frontrunner in the pursuit of Assignon and whether he ultimately decides to continue his career in England or elsewhere.
