Tottenham put up a valiant effort against Atletico Madrid as they went down fighting. In a game that ended 3-2, Spurs took a first-half lead through loanee Randal Kolo Muani, giving the fans a glimmer of hope. However, just a minute into the second half, Julian Alvarez equalised for the visitors.
Igor Tudor’s men wasted no time in restoring the lead, as they took the lead through Xavi Simons in the 52nd minute. 23 minutes later, Hancko made it 2-2 for Atletico Madrid. Just when it looked like it might end in a draw, an intelligent move from Simons won him a penalty, which he converted expertly to make it 3-2 with 5 minutes to go.

For being deployed in a position he hardly plays in, the Romanian did well, and mostly thwarted Ademola Lookman’s threat in the first half. Was replaced by Destiny Udogie in the 67th minute.

A rather average outing for the skipper. He did make a few key blocks. Was shown a yellow card in the 71st minute before being replaced 10 minutes later to make way for Kevin Danso.
Van de Ven – 5
Faced trouble due to Marcos Llorente early on in the match, and in the next half, struggled due to the mercurial Alvarez, who came to life after a rather quiet first half.
Spence – 6
The rapid Spence, after a rather tame first half, was very energetic in the last 45 minutes. Even made a brilliant tackle right at the death to prevent Atletico Madrid from making it 3-3.
Gray – 7
Another game, another assist for the youngster who just turned 20. Was largely unthreatened alongside his partner Pape Matar Sarr.
Matar Sarr – 7
Solid outing for the Senegalese, especially winning most of the contested aerial duels.
Porro – 5
Played in an advanced role and did not look as comfortable as he is in RB.
Tel – 7
Tel was full of energy in the first half, making darting runs and causing chaos. His efforts paid off after it was his cross that Kolo Muani met to score the first goal.
Simons – 8
Man of the match clearly. Although he had a lively first half, the Dutchman’s usual habit of releasing the ball late continued holding him back. However, he sparked into life in the second half, giving Tottenham the lead in the 52nd minute, before an intelligent move in the dying minutes won Tottenham the penalty. Simons converted brilliantly from the sport, nestling it right into the bottom corner through the side netting.
Kolo Muani – 7
Rose brilliantly to meet Tel’s cross and give Tottenham the lead. Was lively in the second half as well, trying to make things happen.
