Initially, Brentford had secured an agreement with the Championship club, offering £40 million inclusive of add-ons for the 18-year-old talent.
However, Spurs have unexpectedly entered the fray, as exclusively reported by Football Insider on Sunday morning, potentially redirecting Gray’s future to North London.
Despite Brentford’s progress, including a medical examination for Gray on Saturday, the club now appears to have conceded defeat to Spurs in the race for the young star’s signature.
The versatile teenager, adept at playing both right-back and in midfield, is now anticipated to undergo a medical with Tottenham, possibly finalizing the move early this week.
Gray’s performances for Leeds last season garnered widespread attention from top-tier clubs.
His adaptability across multiple positions at such a young age demonstrated a rare maturity, with the player featuring in 47 out of 52 matches for Leeds as they pursued, ultimately unsuccessfully, promotion to the Premier League.
This development will likely disappoint Leeds supporters, particularly given Gray’s contract extension in January, which was set to keep him at Elland Road until 2028.
However, Football Insider had previously reported that Leeds needs to generate £150 million through player sales following their failed promotion bid, potentially explaining the club’s willingness to part with their young prospect.
