Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly in frequent communication with Lille forward Jonathan David as manager Ange Postecoglou seeks to add a proven goal-scorer to the squad before the new season begins.

It’s been almost a year since Harry Kane, Tottenham’s all-time top scorer and England captain, left for Bayern Munich in a high-value transfer.

Despite Kane’s departure, Spurs performed well last season, finishing fifth in the league, just two points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.

While Tottenham has shown interest in David, other Premier League clubs like Chelsea and West Ham are also monitoring the 24-year-old striker.

European clubs, including Roma, have also expressed interest.

According to Football Insider, Postecoglou has made signing a center-forward a priority after Richarlison scored only 11 goals in 28 Premier League appearances last season.

David is reportedly at the top of Postecoglou’s list, and Spurs are maintaining regular contact with the player as they prepare to make an official bid.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Lille’s president, Olivier Letang, expects both David and Leny Yoro to leave the club this summer.

Yoro has already moved to Manchester United for around £52 million plus add-ons.

David has only one year left on his contract with Lille, which explains why the club is looking to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next year.

It’s believed Lille may be willing to sell David for around £25 million.

Scoring was an issue for Spurs last season, with the team netting 74 goals in 38 games, the seventh-highest in the Premier League.

While Son Heung-min had a solid season with 17 goals, Postecoglou wants to reduce the pressure on the South Korean captain.

David has been impressive for Lille since joining in 2020, scoring 84 goals in 183 appearances.

Last season, he scored 26 goals in 47 matches across all competitions, with 19 in Ligue 1.

He also performed well in Canada’s recent Copa America campaign, scoring twice and helping the team reach the semi-finals.
