Leeds United are leading contenders to sign one of the Championship’s top players in this summer’s transfer window.
After narrowly missing automatic promotion last season, manager Daniel Farke is under pressure to secure a top-two finish this term.
The club has made a promising start to their transfer activities, acquiring Jayden Bogle from Sheffield United for £5 million.
They’re now focusing on attacking reinforcements, with Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi mentioned as a potential target.
However, a move for a highly-rated Championship player appears to be more advanced.
According to The Mirror, Leeds United are keen on signing Blackburn Rovers’ attacking midfielder Sammie Szmodics. They’re frontrunners alongside Premier League newcomers Ipswich Town.
Szmodics had an impressive last season, scoring 27 league goals and winning the Golden Boot.
Despite Blackburn’s efforts to retain him with a lucrative contract offer, Szmodics, who is under contract until 2026, is attracting significant interest.
Szmodics, now regarded as one of the Championship’s best players, honed his skills at Peterborough United before joining Blackburn.
His former owner at Peterborough, Darragh MacAnthony, recently suggested that signing Szmodics could practically guarantee Leeds promotion.
MacAnthony stated that Leeds should consider buying Szmodics, as he believes the Golden Boot winner could be crucial in their promotion bid.
