However, recent footage suggests the responsibility doesn’t lie solely with the Croatian coach. In the build-up to Gibbs-White’s goal, Romero was seen jogging back into position rather than showing the urgency expected—falling short even of full effort, let alone the “200 per cent” he had promised.
Had he matched his words with action, he might have prevented Forest’s second goal. It was a poor moment from the captain, who is not alone in appearing disengaged in recent weeks.
The bigger question now is whether a managerial change would be enough to spark a response. At this stage of the season, Spurs need a coach focused on survival above all else. With only a one-point cushion separating them from the bottom three, they can’t afford another misstep like the one that has left them in this precarious position.
