Crystal Palace has agreed to loan promising 20-year-old Malcolm Ebiowei to Oxford United for the upcoming season, continuing his development since joining Palace in 2022.
According to Football Insider, Ebiowei is undergoing a medical with Oxford on Friday to finalize the loan deal.
He’ll join Des Buckingham’s newly promoted Championship side following their League One play-off victory last season.
Ebiowei has made only five brief appearances for Palace’s first team in the Premier League and Carabao Cup in 2022. However, he gained Championship experience during his time at Derby County.
The midfielder came through Derby’s academy and broke into the first team under Wayne Rooney in 2022, before being sold due to the club’s financial difficulties.
Rooney highly praised Ebiowei’s performance against Coventry City, calling it “one of the best I have seen from a young player consistently for 90 minutes in a long time.
” He described Ebiowei as excellent, hardworking, and an exciting young player with enormous ability and bravery.
Ebiowei spent the latter half of last season on loan at Belgian club RWD Molenbeek, making five appearances and providing one assist.
He’s set to join Oxford United in time for their Championship season opener against Norwich City.
