UPDATE – Tottenham fans can’t believe as £65m Clubs Old termer now ready to entertain offer from European GIANT Amid Relegation fear

The centre-back has been a consistent presence for the Premier League side since arriving from VfL Wolfsburg in August 2023.

Since then, he has made 89 appearances for Tottenham, including 38 this season, contributing 10 goals and three assists along the way.

The Netherlands international has remained a key figure under both Thomas Frank and his successor Igor Tudor, which has helped him retain his spot in the national team.

Here are his average Premier League stats per game this season:

  • Interceptions: 0.8
  • Tackles: 1.1
  • Clearances: 3.9
  • Times dribbled past: 0.3
  • Ball recoveries: 3.4
  • Duels won: 3.4

Despite his importance, Van de Ven has struggled for form in recent weeks, mirroring Tottenham’s difficulties. Spurs currently sit 17th in the table, just one point above 18th-placed West Ham United.

Barcelona show interest

The Dutch defender has reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona, who are aiming to strengthen their backline after the season.

Earlier reports in January described him as a potential “dark horse” target, and fresh updates suggest he remains on their radar.

Barcelona, managed by Hansi Flick, are prioritising a move for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni. However, they are also considering alternative options in case that deal does not materialise.

Van de Ven is among those alternatives and is believed to be open to leaving Tottenham at the end of the season.

Although there are concerns about inconsistency and occasional lapses in concentration, Barcelona’s sporting hierarchy are said to admire his qualities. They have already made initial contact to gauge his interest, while making it clear he is not their top priority.

Reports indicate the defender is willing to wait for a potential move to the Catalan club.

Contract situation and valuation

Van de Ven will have three years remaining on his contract after this season.

According to Transfermarkt, his market value stands at €65 million — the highest of his career so far — and Tottenham would likely demand an even higher fee to sanction a transfer.

His career is managed by Team Raiola, with agent Vincenzo Raiola overseeing his professional interests.
