AliousJesurun Rak-Sakyi, a young Crystal Palace winger, has chosen to join Sheffield United over Leeds United, primarily due to the opportunity to work with Chris Wilder and the promise of more playing time, according to The Star.
Several Championship clubs were interested in Rak-Sakyi, with Sheffield United and Leeds United leading the race.
Initially, Sheffield United struggled with Palace’s loan terms, which included covering Rak-Sakyi’s full wages and a loan fee.
Leeds attempted to purchase the player outright, but Palace preferred a loan deal.Eventually, Sheffield United agreed to Palace’s terms, reportedly beating Leeds and Hull City to sign Rak-Sakyi.
The prospect of working with Wilder and getting more minutes at Bramall Lane was crucial in his decision.
Leeds had considered Rak-Sakyi as a potential replacement for Crysencio Summerville, but club officials believed he had already decided on Sheffield United.
Previously, it was thought Rak-Sakyi preferred staying in London, having had a successful loan spell with Charlton Athletic.
The deal is nearly complete, pending paperwork. Rak-Sakyi has reportedly finished his medical and media obligations.
His decision is seen as logical, given that Leeds couldn’t guarantee him a central role in their team, which already has strong wide options like Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James.
At Sheffield United, Rak-Sakyi is more likely to be a regular starter in Wilder’s 4-2-3-1 system, potentially replacing Andre Brooks on the right wing.Ultimately, the loan move is about Rak-Sakyi’s development, which is better served by regular playing time rather than being on the bench.
