Wenham suggests Whiteman’s future at Spurs is uncertain, with Brandon Austin seemingly higher in the goalkeeper rankings.
The club’s recent pre-season tour appears to have solidified their stance, as Austin played in all five matches while Whiteman only made a brief substitute appearance.
With just one year left on Whiteman’s contract, this summer could be the ideal time for both parties to consider a transfer.
Wenham told Tottenham News: “Whiteman might be moved on.
It seems clear that Austin is ahead of him at the club.
With a year left on his contract, this could be the best time for him to leave Tottenham.
The recent pre-season tour seems to have established a clear pecking order.
“Whiteman, who joined Tottenham’s academy in 2015, extended his contract until 2024 in February 2023.
However, his first-team opportunities have been limited, with his most notable appearance being a substitute role in a 2020 Europa League match.
He also had two loan spells with Swedish club Degerfors.
With Guglielmo Vicario as the primary goalkeeper and Fraser Forster and Brandon Austin as backups, Whiteman’s path to the first team looks challenging.
A transfer could benefit both Whiteman, offering him more playing time, and Spurs, allowing them to focus resources elsewhere in the squad.
