AliousOliver Glasner has announced that Marc Guehi will captain Crystal Palace against West Ham on Saturday, suggesting the defender will stay with the club despite transfer rumors.
Guehi, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, played the full 90 minutes and wore the captain’s armband in Palace’s season opener against Brentford.
Despite the team’s 2-1 loss, Guehi performed well, completing 39 of 41 passes, making 10 clearances, and winning all his aerial duels.Ahead of the West Ham match, Glasner confirmed Guehi would again captain the team.
When asked about Guehi’s future, Glasner stated he expects all players to remain with Palace unless told otherwise, implying that Newcastle’s pursuit of Guehi may be unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe was vague about his club’s transfer plans, saying he’s not directly involved in negotiations but aware that work is ongoing behind the scenes.
He added that Newcastle is still active in the transfer market and trying to improve their squad before the window closes.
With only a week left in the transfer window, Glasner’s comments suggest Guehi is likely to stay at Crystal Palace, while Newcastle continues to explore their options in the market.
