AliousRoberto De Zerbi has reached an agreement to become the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, with multiple reports shedding light on the details of the deal—including a highly lucrative financial package.
Spurs confirmed the departure of Igor Tudor on Sunday, and swiftly moved to secure De Zerbi’s appointment despite the club’s ongoing relegation concerns.
While Mauricio Pochettino remained a popular option, his current role with the United States men’s national soccer team ahead of the 2026 World Cup ruled him out, prompting Tottenham to focus fully on De Zerbi.
According to insider Graeme Bailey, the 46-year-old has agreed to take charge immediately rather than waiting until the end of the season. Although a few minor details still need to be finalized, both parties are aligned, and the deal is expected to go through barring any late complications.
Initially, De Zerbi was believed to prefer a summer arrival, especially given Tottenham’s precarious position near the relegation zone. However, the club’s financial offer proved decisive.
Spurs have reportedly included a substantial “survival bonus” if De Zerbi successfully keeps the team in the Premier League. This is part of a broader financial package designed to make the move irresistible.
In addition, the Italian has been offered a five-year contract, with a salary that would make him the third highest-paid manager in the league—behind only Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, the latter earning around £15 million per year.
This would place De Zerbi ahead of Arne Slot, despite Slot currently managing the reigning Premier League champions.
One of the final aspects still under discussion is how De Zerbi’s salary would be affected if Tottenham were relegated and he chose to remain at the club. Reports suggest that his contract will include relegation clauses, meaning his wages would be reduced should Spurs drop into the Championship while he stays on.
