AliousCrystal Palace Chairman Open to Future Guehi Transfer to Newcastle
Despite Newcastle’s unsuccessful attempts to sign Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has indicated that a future move remains possible.
Newcastle had pursued the England defender, offering up to £70 million including add-ons, but Palace ultimately rejected the bid.
Parish explained that the transfer window didn’t unfold as expected, with the club initially anticipating Guehi’s departure rather than Joachim Andersen’s.
The acceptance of a bid for Andersen complicated matters, making it difficult to part with both starting center-backs.
An injury to Chadi Riad further limited Palace’s options, effectively ruling out Guehi’s transfer at that time.
Palace saw several key players leave during the window, including Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, Joachim Andersen to Fulham, Sam Johnstone to Wolves, and Jordan Ayew and Odsonne Edouard to Leicester.
Parish emphasized the club’s pride in developing talent and willingness to do business with top clubs or ambitious ones like Newcastle.
He stressed the importance of allowing players to progress to maintain Palace’s attractiveness to young talent.
Crystal Palace, under new manager Oliver Glasner, has had a challenging start to the season, securing only one point from their first three matches. They face Leicester City at home after the international break.
