AliousFabrizio Romano has shed light on why Eberechi Eze remained at Crystal Palace this summer, with his release clause set to become active again in 2025.
Eze’s contract, signed last November, included a £60 million release clause plus £8 million in add-ons.
Despite initial interest from top clubs like Tottenham, Manchester City, and Newcastle, no one triggered the clause before it expired ahead of the new Premier League season.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish expressed surprise at the lack of interest, describing Eze as an “outstanding footballer” and “outstanding person.”
Romano clarified that Eze’s situation wasn’t about Palace accepting or declining offers. If any club had met the release clause, the decision would have been Eze’s.
However, no concrete offers materialized, with only Man City having him on their list and Tottenham showing appreciation.
The Daily Mail reports that Eze’s release clause will reactivate at the end of this season, potentially reigniting transfer speculation.
The clause’s value is expected to remain the same, though Palace might be open to negotiations in 2025.
Eze had an impressive previous season with 11 goals and six assists in 31 appearances across all competitions, despite some injury setbacks.
He’s started the new season strongly with two goals in four matches.
