AliousDejan Kulusevski has insisted he is determined to beat the odds and regain fitness in time for this summer’s World Cup.
The 25-year-old has not featured at all this season after undergoing patella surgery last May. He became emotional while watching Sweden national football team secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Poland national football team in Stockholm, sealing their qualification for the tournament in North America.
Speaking to Viaplay, Kulusevski acknowledged the challenge ahead but made it clear he still believes in his chances of making the squad. He stressed that, despite a year out of action, he is backing himself to complete the comeback and contribute on the global stage. He also underlined Sweden’s ambition, insisting the team will not travel just to make up the numbers but to compete with the very best.
The midfielder recently underwent a minor follow-up procedure on his knee, which he described as a crucial step forward in his recovery. He explained that the operation helped identify and resolve the underlying issue, expressing confidence that his condition is now on the right track.
Kulusevski has remained close to the squad throughout his rehabilitation, travelling to Valencia to support Sweden in their play-off semi-final against Ukraine before returning home to witness their qualification.
Despite his desire to be involved, he emphasized that the spotlight should remain on those currently playing, saying he simply wants to support his teammates. Even while dealing with physical limitations, he has put personal frustrations aside, prioritizing unity and sharing in the team’s success.
