Everton tied to Röhl deal
There was plenty of optimism when the Germany Under-21 international arrived late in the transfer window. However, that excitement has faded quickly due to a series of underwhelming performances that have limited his involvement in the Premier League.
Calls for increased game time have been minimal, as his displays have failed to impress. In fact, there had even been hope that the obligation-to-buy clause in his loan deal could be scrapped before the summer.
However, that is no longer a possibility. Reports indicate there is no clause allowing Everton to withdraw from the agreement, meaning the deal must go through regardless of his form.
Given Röhl’s lack of impact so far, this development comes as a setback for both Everton and Carlos Alcaraz.
Alcaraz facing uncertain future
As a result, Everton are expected to pay around £18 million for Röhl once the transfer window reopens — a commitment that may not sit well given his performances.
With finances and squad balance in mind, the club could be forced to offload midfielders, and Alcaraz may be the most vulnerable option after managing just 673 minutes in the league this season.
The Argentine is unlikely to be short of suitors, having previously featured for Juventus and Flamengo.
While Everton may prefer to keep him, the obligation to sign Röhl could ultimately leave them with little choice but to part ways.
