He has featured just nine times in all competitions in North London, and the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi as head coach is unlikely to offer him an unexpected route back into the side.
His struggles extended to the international stage, where he failed to impress for Romania during the break, playing the full match as their World Cup qualification hopes were ended by Turkey.
It now appears almost inevitable that Radu Drăgușin will leave Tottenham in the near future—and when he does, he may reflect on turning down a hugely lucrative offer earlier in his career.
Missed opportunities despite strong interest
Drăgușin remains under contract at Spurs until 2030, having signed a six-year deal after joining from Genoa in January 2024.
However, his time in North London has been limited, with just 46 appearances in total and only five Premier League starts this season—highlighting his current fringe status.
According to Romanian outlet iAM Sport, his agent Florin Manea revealed that several major offers were rejected. Speaking on the iAM Stucan podcast, Manea disclosed that a Saudi club proposed a deal worth €50 million over five years—€10 million annually—with the possibility of rising to €100 million.
Interest also came from RB Leipzig during the winter transfer window, but that approach was also turned down.
A difficult path forward at Spurs
Despite rejecting significant offers, Drăgușin’s future may ultimately be decided by the club rather than the player. De Zerbi is expected to assess him until the end of the season, but competition is fierce, with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Kevin Danso all ahead of him in the pecking order.
His performances this season have done little to strengthen his case. In the Premier League, he has recorded just five tackles, eight blocks, and 13 recoveries—figures that fall short of expectations.
More concerningly, Tottenham have conceded 13 goals while he has been on the pitch, and he has won only 48.9% of his duels. Under De Zerbi’s demanding standards, such numbers are unlikely to be enough.
A permanent exit now seems increasingly likely, leaving Drăgușin to consider what might have been.
